Our Story

Avatara began as a humble lemonade cart on the streets of Calgary in 2007. Driven by a passion for handcrafting lemonade with real, natural ingredients, our small business quickly gained momentum, evolving into a premium drink company. Like many startups, our journey faced early challenges, especially limited access to seed capital.

For the brief months we operated, the business thrived, generating strong revenue. However, as winter approached, we realized that selling cold lemonade from an outdoor cart would be unsustainable in the frigid months. That fall, as our lemonade season came to an end, we began seriously considering adding pizza to our offerings.

This idea marked the true beginning of Avatara, allowing us to operate year-round and provide food we could serve every day, regardless of the weather. We opened a small permanent retail location and continued to expand through our mobile cart.

Gradually, we built a local business rooted in sustainable practices, sourcing products that were farmed or produced without harmful chemicals. Over time, we also committed to using exclusively gluten-free ingredients and dedicated our facilities to gluten-free production. We offered options for various dietary needs, including vegan, soy-free, and lactose-free diets, and sourced ingredients from companies that supported a healthy food chain—even if it meant reduced profit margins. Our mission remained clear: to provide high-quality, convenient food.

In 2019, we began exploring the idea of crafting our own artisanal products for wholesale and retail distribution, as we couldn’t find products that met our standards. This led us to invest in a production facility where we could create items like artisan pizza crusts. Our facility allowed us to produce handcrafted foods using innovative methods and the natural chemistry of raw ingredients. Through strategic partnerships, we expanded our distribution across Alberta.

​Today, Avatara has become our platform for giving back to the communities that have supported us, as well as a way to reward our hardworking employees, who are the heart of our business. We remain committed to fostering social, cultural, and environmental well-being in our community.

We are a Fully Licensed, Sit down, Family and Children friendly restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, and we play different kinds of music, depending on the time of day.

The place is wheelchair accessible, and has a seating capacity of 22 guests.
